LEARN MORE ABOUT THE GYCL!
The Greenwich Youth Cheerleading League (GYCL), formed in 2004, operates as an entity alongside the Gateway/Greenwich Youth Football League (GYFL). Participation in the GYCL program provides girls and boys, in 3rd through 8th grade, the opportunity to perform in an organized, supervised and safe environment. At the heart of the program, GYCL emphasizes safety, fun for all and encourages the development of teamwork and fundamental skills. The GYCL is a town-wide recreation program for Greenwich residents or students attending private school within Greenwich and is not affiliated with Greenwich elementary or middle schools (public or private).
The GYCL operates under strict guidelines for the health and safety of its cheerleaders. To promote GYCL's ideals of safety and enjoyment for all in an organized and supervised environment, the GYCL Board mandates that all coaches are CPR, First Aid and AED Certified. In addition, all coaches must complete an extensive concussion training certification. All head coaches are AACCA certified. In addition, head coaches must be a minimum of 21 years of age, assistant coaches must be a minimum of 18 years of age and junior coaches must be at least 14 years of age with previous cheerleading experience.
